To move or not to move...that is the question

Well, Cheryl has been offered a position in a lab in Bellingham WA. We happen to live clear across the country in Upstate NY. I think we are going to go. They are offering her a good pay rate, and the area is beautiful. The clincher is that her current job is only guarantee'd until July.

So, do we take the offer and move across the country for something sure and leave everything behind, or do we stay here and take the chance that she doesn't lose her job and stay here?

If we stay here and she loses her job, then we could lose our house and all that we have built here. She would have to take the first job she can get, and it won't be in NY. So, we could end up anywhere, with any salary. We wouldn't have a choice where we go, whereas in the WA situation, we do.

Cheryl's mother is on board and will come with us. Gillian, while not happy, is on board. But, I would be leaving my whole family behind. Our church, which we hold dear. And my friends. The school, which we know and have worked with for years.

This is the hardest decision ever. When I posted to my Moms's board they were all telling me to GO! Bellingham is beautiful and from what I can tell from the relocation information and what I have found online, it is. There is little snow, but there is also little sun. Moderate temps vs the really cold here. We would be on the ocean and have the mountains behind us. We'd be very close to Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA.

What's a girl to do. It's a lifetime changing decision.

Cheryl is going to talk to the person recruting her and ask more questions. We are most likely going to take a trip out there to see the area. But, if any of you that read me either live near that area and can offer advice, or if you have been in this situation, please, all advice is greatly appreciated.

You already know what I have to say. Come on over! I am here to help you get settled in and unpacked and take the girls to the park. You will find a great church and a city full of diversity and everyone is welcome here.. it's Seattle for heavens sake! This side of the US is goegrous.. A ferry ride to Victoria BC or Walking the Pier in Seattle or visiting your friend Amanda in Tacoma for a trip to the nicest zoo ever! :) Can't wait to hear you've decided one way or another

A trip! How exciting! Washington - my take on it, BEAUTIFUL!!! We are about 10 hours from there, I could not handle it, because it rains, alot. But everything is so green and beautiful. And I believe Seattle is huge with the LGBT community and very accepting, of course, I don't know how accepting NY is, but you all seem to be doing great.

In our situation, it would not be hard for me to pack up my family and move anywhere if the money was right, but then, I/we have almost nothing to leave behind.

Anyway, I hope your trip is fun and successful. If you make it down to Sacramento or San Francisco area, let us know, I think you have Monkey's phone number, and I can give you mine as well.

Always :)

That's a very big decision and I don't envy you right now. But with all big decisions there is never going to be an absolute right choice. I think you're just going to have to weigh out all the pros and cons and in the end go with your gut, close your eyes and step off. Moving to a new place is never easy, and leaving family is going to be the hardest. But I can assure you that we over here on the west coast are friendly and welcoming. Yes it does rain a fair amount here, but it is green all year round, we rarely get any crazy storms, the winters are mild and the summers are down right perfect.

Good luck in your decision making...

Pray about it...God will give you the answer..

BUT I would say go...lol What do you have to lose? I mean if she isn't even sure if she'll have a job after july thats a challenge within itself, why not move and see what else God has to offer. PRAY PRAY PRAY and keep us posted on your decision

Just FYI! Best wishes with your decision. It's kind of cool that in blogland it doesn't matter where you live (I can read you either way)...

As long as Gillian can test for her black belt before you go, I say... go for it!

We'll miss you, but it doesn't look like we'll be around much longer either...

This is certainly a life growth experience. I would recommend WA to most anyone, it's a bit like upstate NY but with a lot more green and a lot less cold.

I would definitely have Cheryl ask more questions and if you can take a trip out there. It sounds like a great opportunity and maybe it would be a good change for all of you. It would get you away from zillions of feet of snow all winter anyway. :)
